Networks and Security Engineer

The Networks & Security Engineer is responsible and accountable for the secure operation of the Network and Communications infrastructure and across the wide area network (WAN), including corporate, coastal and third-party integration. They will work as part of the Infrastructure and Operations team and will work closely with other members of the team. Responsibilities Overall responsibility for management and security of the Network and Communications infrastructure at our Headquarters, our vessel Granuaile and our coastal locations (lighthouse and buoys). • Configuration, performance and documentation of firewalls, switches, routers, and other active network equipment • The configuration, performance and documentation of VPNs, within Dun Laoghaire, to/from networked coastal stations and to/from external organisations • Maintenance of up-to-date documentation on the IP address schema, security certificates and structured cabling. • Liaison with 3rd parties & project management on network and communications related projects • Work with the ICT Technology & Security Officer in relation to security and cyber policy and procedure development and implementation of appropriate security features to meet evolving cyber security requirements. • Identification of appropriate software and hardware solutions to enable effective monitoring, reporting and troubleshooting • Liaise with vendors and keep up to date with changes in network architecture, security and communications technologies. • Continuous improvement and updating of the communications infrastructure as new and appropriate technologies emerge and adopted. • Implement and/or assist with the planning and implementation of major infrastructure projects, new systems and technologies across the organisation Essential Criteria • Hold a relevant professional qualification and experience • Extensive knowledge of firewall and security management practices • Extensive knowledge of WAN/LAN topologies, IoT, active network and communication technologies • Experience managing projects and knowledge of project management methodologies • Proactive, ready to take the lead with strong investigative & analytical skills • Focused on solving business problems and integrating/automating business processes Desirable Criteria • Ability to conduct server maintenance and other server management related tasks to support Level 3 tasks within the organisation • Strong technical skills, understanding and experience of complex network topologies and ability to troubleshoot and support environments including, SAN, Windows (Client and Server), M365, Azure, VMware, Citrix, WAN and LAN.
