Job Title: Mechanical Engineer
Location: Galway (onsite)

Our client is looking for a Mechanical Engineer with experience in the automotive industry to join their team. It is the chance to join a newly established Engineering Research and Development Practice and work on key projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Drive the development of cutting-edge mechanical design solutions for high-performance enclosures, ensuring exceptional thermal, ingress, impact, and EMI performance.
  • Analyze customer and functional requirements to establish performance criteria, with desirable experience in using DOORS.
  • Create precise 3D models and 2D drawings according to ISO standards, incorporating functional dimensions and utilizing Drawing Control, including GD+T.
  • Utilize a range of prototyping techniques, conduct thorough bench testing, and gather and analyze data for efficient and accurate product development.
  • Conduct thermal simulations, both in-house and with external partners, to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
  • Apply expertise in designing for manufacture, encompassing tooling, molding, and assembly, while actively identifying and proposing design and process enhancements.
  • Perform Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (DFMEA) activities to mitigate potential risks and ensure robust product designs.
  • Investigate tolerances and conduct stack up analysis to ensure precise fit and function of components.
  • Provide support for technical architecture and standards initiatives, contributing to the overall excellence of the engineering practice.
  • Lead design activities involving internal and external stakeholders, including Purchasing/Supply Chain/Manufacturing and other R&D entities.
  • Support project planning and management, ensuring timely and efficient execution of engineering deliverables.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation in the PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) database, enabling seamless collaboration and knowledge sharing.

You:
  • Bachelor Degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering 
  • 3 years experience in Mechanical Design a minimum
  • Proven proficiency in 3D CAD - ideally CATIA V5
  • Experience in designing and passively and actively cooled (Air Cooled and Liquid cooling) solutions
  • Experience with alloy die casting and sheet metal for high volume production
  • Injection moulding experience desirable but not essential
  • Adhesives experience desirable but not essential
